Steering Angle - Part 1

The E4D RWD Project

To be honest I didn't want to post this yet, as I have not fixed this problem yet. My current steering angle is at 71%. If you want to get to this steering angle you may do the following.

The First thing I changed :

1) The Steering Block, ( I hope this is correct)

Items Needed :
1 X MF Steering Block

The original Steering block had the same problem, where you turn it will will  hit the gear. If any one has better options do leave it down in the comments. I opted for the E4D MF Steering Block. It has a shorter arm but provides better steering angle.

I might change this later if I find something better. (trial and error sucks, and no I don't have a 3d printer)

2) Remove the Drive Shaft

The main thing that stops the wheels from turning is the drive shaft. At high steering angles the drive shaft will cause the wheel to stop turning. Now you don't want that happening. So lose the drive shaft..

Note: I bought a 80 degree drive shaft but that doesn't work unless i change the steering block to a tamiya or 3 racing one.

3) Caster Block

This is the one which is help you turn a bit more. I cut the back portion of the caster block. I don't know the risk of this yet :p. But it seems to be working fine for me.

By doing the above steps you should be able to hit 71 degrees on steering angle.





For stability (WIP)

1) Steering System

Items Needed:
1x MF Steering Set
2x Caster Block Lower Screw
2 x M3 x10mm
1 x Servo Horn 

I changed removed the original steering And replaced it with the MF Steering Kit. I could not find an arm to hold both the steering arms, It with a custom made servo horn :p


I need to extend the arms and move this 1 cm. I still find the car a little wobbly but it does work a whole lot more compared to the original steering. Hopefully this would be more stable as there is less flex on the top chassis. 



The original arms are short, you need to find a way to extend the steering arm. I added some servo horns at the end of the arm. Its just a temporary measure at the moment until I find a more permanent fix.


Update 5th December 21 : 

The front gear connecting the from the rear was completely removed. At higher turning angles the tires were hitting the gear.

Chassis was cut more to accommodate higher steering angle. Now at 76 Degrees.

The Gyro and the Receiver

After reading more forums, apparently gyros are very normal for RWD and NO this is not greek food :p

I'm still learning here bit by bit. So I looked up the cheapest gyros I can get in the rc stores here and they were trying to sell that gyro for MYR 80. So I went down a different route and got a receiver with gyro.

Beat that, get upgraded for both for the price of one. I got the Radiolink RC4G with Gyro. I think they have 2 versions out there. So be careful if you get one.

I installed the gyro on the car, for a whole week I was cursing the gyro. KNS I buy this gyro but car still like same only. No difference also. wasted my money. Next time buy cheap shit.

Note to Self: read the manual... paiseh

The gyro is set in one direction. However most of the car setup with the receiver I have is reversed. that includes the gyro. So change the direction of the gyro and walla .. like magic man.

Generally the E4D has shitty steering angle. Even with the gyro, it does not help. The car tends to be very tail happy which the gyro did not really solve.

Settings :

Throttle EPA : 30 - 40% depending on tire and surface
Gyro : Currently at 83%
Steering Speed 85% (Gyro turn faster, u just make correction to angle)
Throttle Exp Rate : -74 (low throttle at minimum throttle, i got heavy fingers)






The Beginning

The E4D RWD Project

Lets go back 2 months ago, I remember cursing the shop owner for selling me this chassis.The guys says "I told you maaaa, take MF maaa"

Anyway, that being said, the fun part for me is; messing around with this chassis. So the quest for fixing the problems starts.

The First Fix

Bumper. Simple enough, the mighty scissors does the job. Cut the 2 end touching the wheel and that was fixed :D










The Second Fix

Front chassis, this was difficult for me at first as I didn't have the tools at first and until now still do no have the tools. I am still waiting for the sander to arrive. For now, it was a blade and sand paper. 250 grit seems to do a good job. Where the gear sits cut down the chassis. If you look at the picture you don't have to cut too much to get the AWD perfect.

For the RWD Fix,
unfortunately I think I have to cut out more of the chassis and remove the gear :( I do not want to do that.yes

The first steps to RWD
Off with the Belt. Yes that works!!! I am RWD :D. Lets take the monster for a spin.
Unfortunately my car wheels was spinning and it was not moving anywhere.

First step :

Throttle down. I reduced my throttle to 50%. Easy ma 6.5T motor, half the speed means 13T motor lor 👅👅

Yes this work slightly better but the car wheels still was spinning too much.

To save you time, 30% Throttle should be about right to start off with RWD. If I only read more earlier :p

The Team Magic E4D RWD Project

The Team Magic E4d RWD Project

Purpose : To Convert E4D 6.5T from All Wheel Drive to Rear Wheel Drive and try to maintain easy AWD conversion

Status : On going

RC Enthusiast Level : Noob :p

Why :

After 2 months of tinkering with this chassis I found many problems with this. A design flaw which I find rather odd and no one has ever mentioned it.After reading there weren't many comments about this.

Also not many people stock on Team Magic parts here. I went to the local distributor here in Malaysia but some parts are still limited.

1) Steering

At a stock level out of the box, The steering is loose. It has central steering arm which controls both wheels. Whenever you turn too much, the arm will "pop up". This causes some instability in the controls.

The other problem with the steering is that it sit on top of the top chassis. This tends to flex causing the steering to be in accurate.

2) Chassis

I noticed that the front wheels will touch the chassis during a full turn. I had to make sure my ride height was above a certain level so the wheels would not hit the chassis while turning. There goes the lowering of the front. :(

3) Foam Bumber

Same Problem as above. Wheels keep hitting the bumper.

Balance
1) The car seems almost balanced right in the center, This is great in my opinion for a AWD car. The car seem to slide better on all four wheels.

Fun to drive

As an all wheel drive, the e4d is a really fun drive. It is easy to control and you can take really fast drifts.

With Foam tires this cars goes 70 KM/H on stock motor. Weeeeeeee
